Attractive and free-spirited; a former lead singer in a group called "Donna and the Dynamos" who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island; a strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side. Mezzo belt with a full sound and pop sensibility; lead. Rosie: Female, late 30s to mid-40s, also a former singer in the "Dynamos," who now writes for and runs a feminist press; she’s confident, strong, and funny on the outside, but shy underneath; kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Actress who sings--alto/mezzo; lead. Sophie: Female, 18-20, a very special young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother; has a wild, zany spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Strong pop belt with upper mix; lead. Sam: Male, 40-45, may be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman; charming, successful architect. Actor who sings. Bari/tenor; supporting. Harry: Male, 40-45, may be Sophie’s father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative, but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Actor who sings; baritenor; must do an English accent; lead. Bill: Male, 40-45, may be Sophie’s father. A travel writer with no possessions or strings; good-natured, always ready for adventure; funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Should be a very good actor who sings well; bari/tenor; lead. Sky: Male, mid- to late 20s, Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic, very attractive--has given up his life as a successful young businessman in order to make over Donna’s taverna and marry Sophie. Waitress - The keeper of an all-night diner somewhere in the south. A cheerful, lonely person. Mama Lilly - 40s+. Character Woman. Hank’s mother. A “Marjorie Main”—strong and somewhat overbearing. Hoss - 20/30s. In Hank’s band. A big, boyish man. Plays upright (“goghouse”) bass. Jimmy (Burrhead) - 20/30s. In Hank’s band, plays lead electric guitar. From Oklahoma, especially so in his speech. Leon (Loudmouth) - 20/30s. In Hank's band and a skillful musician on many instruments, featured on the fiddle. Fred Rose (Pap) - A founder and executive of a Nashville music publishing company. Character man, 40s. Audrey Williams - 20/30s. Hank's first wife, later a professional widow. Quintessential southern debutante. Glamorous and successful actress who goes galivanting around the world acting younger than her age. Spike - late 20s male. Sexy self-absorbed, Masha's new companion. A hopeless romantic. Soft-spoken, well read and respected. Strong mover. MR. Maraczek - Baritone 40s+ character man. Owner of the parfumerie with a comanding presence. A disciplined business man. Ladislav Sipos - 40+ baritone. A family man/huggable father type stuck in a dull existence. Not the brightest employee. One actress will play all the female roles - from the beautiful and intelligent romantic lead Pamela, to the Russian mystery Annabella, to the innocent Scottish farmwive Margaret. An excellent transformative actress who can handle many dialects. Clowns 1 & 2 - Two men - Any age any ethnicities. Superb comedic character actors who will fearlessly play 150 different roles ranging from teens - 70s. Cleaver and great with dialects.
