As a young lover, he is deeply in love, particularly with the idea of being in love. He lacks experience in the world so, while not stupid, he is naive and perhaps even foolish at times. His image of a young man in love is one of a gallant protector, meaning that he approaches some decisions with a falsified bravery that is little more than bravado. Strong acting and must move well. This role has been cast. The Mute Role CAST. Male or Female, any age. The Mute serves many functions-setting props as characters need them, assisting El Gallo, and becoming the wall separating the families. While this is a nonsinging, non-speaking role, the actor must have a good sense of rhythm, and dance training is a huge plus. The Mute is a speechless presence who watches and helps tell the story with his/her body or fades into the background unnoticed, when needed. The Mute is an agile physical performer with adept mime skills and dance abilities. This role has been cast. Bellomy Role CAST. The Girl’s Father, male 40’s-50’s, a “Character” Baritone. He is fastidious and tidy. Bellomy would do anything to make Luisa happy—including manufacturing a false feud with his best friend and neighbor, Hucklebee, to bring their children together. He even goes as far as hiring El Gallo to stage a phony abduction. Although the scheme initially meets with success, it ultimately backfires. Must have great comic timing. This role has been cast. Hucklebee Role CAST. Father of Matt, male 40’s-50’s, a “Character” Baritone. Hucklebee is pretending to fight with Bellamy in order to get Matt and Luisa together. Must have great comic timing. This role has been cast. Mortimer Role CAST. The Man who Dies - Male, Any Ethnicity, 30+ Does not sing much, but must be able to sing in tune and hold harmonies. Must be adept with improve and have great comic timing. Any types, ages, shapes and sizes for this role. A clownish and goofy character who specializes in dying—comically elaborate death scenes. Mortimer and his partner, Henry, are hired by El Gallo to assist in the phony abduction of Luisa. This role has been cast. Henry Role CAST. An ancient actor who specializes in reciting passages from Shakespeare's plays, Henry is hired by the two fathers to stage an abduction in order to end the fake feud. This role has been cast. LOOKING FOR: Luisa Female, Legit Soprano – High C. Seeking actress 18+ to play 16. As a young lover, she is in love. She is in love with love, the idea of love, the idea of being in love and indeed everything remotely romantic. Her dreams are more fanciful than those of Matt. Because of her particular vision of romance, she deals with the world on a particularly naive level. Strong acting and must move well. * May be the same actress playing Cindy in SUDS: The Rockin’ 60’s Soap Opera El Gallo Male, High Baritone, 30-45 – As the narrator of the piece, he is the liaison between the audience and the action onstage. He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience, yet with darker moments. His attitude toward the rest of the cast reveals a decidedly mysterious side. Above all he is grand and must command attention. ________________ SUDS: The Rockin’ 60’s Soap Opera Director: Melinda Gilb (not expected at EPA) First rehearsal: September 18th; First performance: October 4th; Close: October 21, 2018. Performances: Wednesday thru Sunday, 5 shows a week. Roles CAST. Seeking Covers/possible replacements. Dee Dee Role CAST. Perky and overly enthusiastic, eternal optimist. Fairly manic cross between Sandra Dee and "That Girl". Means well but is liable to wreak havoc at any given time. A big flip hair-do. Typically 60's pointy bra (at one point is referred to as "bullet bra"). Should have a lovely, slightly dressy, very well put-together look (a well dressed Connie Francis). Strong pop alto with a strong belt. Plus nice mix for back up. Solos include: "I Will Follow Him" (Low G to D. Belt or strong mix), "Today I Met The Boy" (Belt or strong mix to E flat). This role has been cast. The Man Role CAST. Plays a multitude of characters including— Postman: A bouncy, energetic, slightly mysterious postman. Washer Repair Man: A big lug. Probably wears work coverall & tool belt, carries toolbox etc. Mrs. Halo: A sweet middle-aged lady with a midwestern accent (she's from Minnesota). She can be dressed in bathrobe, slippers and curlers. (In the second act she is underdressed as Johnny Angel. Hairpiece with curlers should pull off. Bathrobe should be rigged for tearing open.) Mr. Right: A dashing, debonair, good-natured man. A cross between Ward Cleaver and a matinee idol. Right out of a Sears Catalogue, or an arrow ad come to life. Although very strong and confident, he should not be lecherous or leering: he's very polite to women and in fact very charming. Milt Dudman: A nerd. Loud, obnoxious, inappropriate and unappealing. Costume suggestions: glasses with tape, beanie with propeller, highwater/too-high-waisted pants, pocket pen protector, loud jacket etc. Johnny Angel: Earnest young man. Tries to be cool but is really just a regular guy. Has been dressed 'dreamy': white jacket, tux pants, pink tie & cummerbund. Sings "I Feel Good" (James Brown) and "Secret Agent Man" (Johnny Rivers) Falsetto backups in "Tell Him" to B flat. Bass backups in "I Will Follow Him" to A below middle C. In "Mr.Postman" should be comfortable with a strong pop sound to G flat. This role has been cast. LOOKING FOR: Cindy A sweet, personable, possibly gawky girl. Impressionable, and by turns optimistic and depressed, she grows in confidence as the play concludes. She probably wears a ponytail. Should have a strong alto and a sweet sounding mix. Low F. Belt to B-flat. Easy mix to D. Sings sweetly (“Where The Boys Are,” “End of the World,” “Walk On By”) But also in a low range (“These Boots Are Made For Walkin'”) Should be able to belt out “Town Without Pity” (to B flat). Her Act One Finale Solo (“I Don't Wanna Be A Loser”) goes from a sweet wistful soft ballad to a big belt finish. * May be the same actress playing Louisa in THE FANTASTICKS Marge A tough cookie. Larger than life, brassy redhead with a sharp tongue and a heart of gold. Flashy dresser. Probably in a sexy top, capris and high heels. Marge should have a strong, controlled pop/rock belt, Tough R&B 'wail', Plus nice mix for backup. Solos include: "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" (Dusty Springfield) Belt to C#, "Respect" (Aretha Franklin) R&B to F, "Our Day Will Come" Nice mix to C. Covers/Backups for The Man and Dee Dee will also be seen at this time.

Seeking:FLYIN’ WEST All characters are African-American. Frank and Sophie have a lighter skin color than the other characters. Seeking: Miss Leah, 73, has the life experience, the pain, the passion the forgiveness and vengeance that has kept her alive her many tough years. Simple, honest, abrupt, deliberate. Fannie, 32, level-headed, unmarried wants to care for family but also would like love and companionship. Tentatively, but willingly, steps into a relationship with Wil. Sophie, 36, no nonsense, tough spirit that tries to hide tenderness and feminine expression, can do physical labor as well as any man, not actually bloodline of Fannie and Minnie. Minnie, 21, lives abroad with her physically and emotionally abusive husband, Frank. She's never really experienced a harsh frontier life but sympathizes with her family's hardships and misses them terribly. Frank, 32, could pass for white and often has. Domineering, abusive, elitist, feels like he's owed something because he's better than blacks. Very bitter. Wil, 40, a man of principle, trustworthy, uncomplicated, spirited, wants the companionship of a smart, secure woman. If he's lucky, that woman would be Fannie. Should play harmonica, banjo or 'sticks.' _______________ A FLEA IN HER EAR All roles have been CAST  _______________ THE UNDERSTUDY We strongly encourage actors of all cultural backgrounds. Seeking: Harry (male – late 30s, early 40s): A gifted actor with average looks but exceptional talent, he has fallen far short of the career he hoped for. His bitterness about other actors’ successes and the sizable chip on his shoulder are two of his most prominent characteristics. But he is also extremely charming when he wants to be, intelligent, passionate about the theatre, and has the soul of an artist. He also has a fear of commitment, having left Roxanne at the altar years earlier. Jake (male – 30s): A B-list Hollywood action star longing for artistic respect. He has genuine talent, taste, charm, and intelligence, but will always be underestimated because of his drop-dead handsome, leading man looks. He is unashamed of his career choices thus far, but is growing tired of not being taken seriously as an actor. Roxanne (female – late 30s, early 40s): The stage manager for this rehearsal, and a former actress, she prides herself on being put together and running a tight ship, but finds herself frustratingly rattled by the unexpected reappearance of Harry, her former fiance?e, after six years of silence. She does her best to keep control of a rehearsal that seems increasingly derailed by the inscrutable whims of the universe, but eventually she starts to crack under pressure, which is a source of much of the play’s comic energy. _________________ MAN OF LA MANCHA We strongly encourage actors of all cultural backgrounds. Roles will be doubled for a total cast of 12. Sancho Panza (also Cervantes’ Manservant) Miguel de Cervantes ! (also Don Quixote and Alonso Quijana) Governor The Duke Seven Muleteers: Jose Tenorio Paco Juan Anselmo Pedro Aldonza (also Dulcinea) Innkeeper Maria (Innkeeper’s Wife) Fermina (a Serving Girl) Antonia (Alonso’s niece) Housekeeper (for Alonso) Padre Dr. Sanso?n Carrasco (also Antonia’s Fiance? and Knight of the Mirrors) Barber ______________________ THOUSAND PINES We strongly encourage actors of all cultural backgrounds. Note: This play follows three separate families over the course of one Thanksgiving dinner in the present day. The three families are played by the same actors, the roles doubled as outlined below. The shooting occurred six months before the events of the play. Note: The audience does not learn that Cory was the shooter until the final act of the play. Paula Foster (played by Actor 1): A put-together woman with a put-on smile. Insistently clinging to a fac?ade of pleasant normalcy as the only way to hold herself together. Justin Foster (played by Actor 6): Paula’s older son. A sober-minded college student. Feels isolated in his grief and by what he perceives as Paula’s refusal to confront the reality of their loss. Martin Foster (played by Actor 2): The brother of Paula’s deceased husband. Easygoing, a peacekeeper. Beth Sanders (played by Actor 3): Paula’s sister. Amiable and considerate. Two months pregnant, but hesitant about sharing the news with Paula. Charlie Sanders (played by Actor 4): Beth’s husband. Kindhearted and unassuming. Ashley Lawson (played by Actor 5): Justin’s ex-fiance?e. Pretty, precocious but deeply caring. A Dean’s List psychology major. THE KANES – Warren Kane’s son Grayson (Sophie’s stepson) was killed in the shooting. Sophie Paulson-Kane (played by Actor 1): A matriarch with sharp nails and dyed hair. A bit of a steamroller, ferociously pursuing a lawsuit against the school district in the absence of any other closure in her stepson’s murder. Oliver Paulson (played by Actor 2): Sophie’s ex-husband. A lawyer, representing Sophie in the lawsuit. A mild workaholic. Businesslike but sincere. Warren Kane (played by Actor 4): Sophie’s new husband. Tense and angrier than he lets on. Resents the intrusion of Oliver and the lawsuit into their lives. Gretchen Paulson (played by Actor 5): Oliver and Sophie’s daughter. Confident and spirited, with some of her mother’s fierceness. Protective of those she cares about. Debbie Carter (played by Actor 3): A teacher and the primary witness in the lawsuit against the school district. Mousy and agreeable. Searching for a way to ease the guilt and isolation she feels in the shooting’s aftermath. THE GARRISONS – Rita Garrison’s son Tyler was killed in the shooting. Rita Garrison (played by Actor 1): A single mom. Rough around the edges but has always done her best for her family. Torn between lingering in memories and facing her fear of moving forward in her new reality. Kyle Garrison (played by Actor 4): Rita’s younger brother. Sullen and angry. Isolated in his anger and unsure of how to be there for Rita given the troubled history between them. Frank Atkins (played by Actor 2): A police officer. Used to be romantically involved with Rita. Concerned for Rita but wary of falling back into a relationship that has run its course. Evelyn Smoot (played by Actor 3): Rita’s neighbor and a Thousand Pines mom. Bit of an interfering busybody. Tori Metro (played by Actor 5): A reserved and thoughtful young woman. Her overtures to Rita are borne out of genuine concern.
