Seeking:Peggy Sawyer: Female, 20s. A young, starry-eyed, naive, and humble chorus girl who dreams of stardom. She is the triple threat in the show. Must sing, act, and dance (tap) very well. Mezzo soprano; should belt and be able to easily transition to head voice. Julian Marsh: Male, late 30s–early 50s. Famous, but notorious Broadway director of his new show "Pretty Lady" who comes off gruff as he barks his directions at actors and crew, but is charismatic. Voice: baritone. Range: D to high G. Dorothy Brock: Female, late 30s-40s. A slightly past-her-prime and well-known Broadway diva. She is selfish and mean to everyone at first, but comes to understand what's really important in life. Low alto. Must move well. Billy Lawlor: Male, 20s. Youthful. Leading man. High tenor. Attractive. Very strong dancer with excellent tap. Maggie Jones: Female, late 30s–40s. Comic character woman. Writer of "Pretty Lady." Warm and nice with a biting wit. Some dance required. Alto-mezzo soprano: A below middle C to C. Bert Barry: Male, late 30s–40s. Comic character man. Writer of "Pretty Lady." Funny and lovable. Baritone/tenor. Range: C to high F. Some dance required. Pat Denning: Male, late 30s-40s. Attractive and charming. Former vaudeville partner of Dorothy's and her secret romantic partner. Vocal range: D to Eb. Andy Lee: Male, late 20s-30s. Dance director of "Pretty Lady." Excellent dancer, especially tap. No solo singing. Abner Dillon: Male, late 30s–40s. Comic character man. The financial backer of the show. Under Dorothy's spell. A bit of a hick. Mainly speaking role. Anytime Annie: Female, 20s. Excellent dancer, especially tap. Chorus girl in "Pretty Lady." Sarcastic and cynical. She's been around the block. Seeking:Victor: Male, Caucasian, early 50s, Italian-American. Distraught at the passing of Sister Rose, outraged at the state of the world, wearing no pants. Balthazar: Male, Latino/Hispanic, mid-30s. Former student of Sister Rose. Police detective whose young son was murdered. Carries a weight and weariness about him, takes nips from a half-pint bottle regularly. Rooftop: Male, African American, mid-40s. Former student of Sister Rose, now a successful morning radio DJ in L.A. Inez’s ex-husband, cheated on her with Norca and many others. Hugely charismatic, restless, generally follows his appetites with abandon. Terrified to see Inez and face his demons. Father Lux: Male, Caucasian, mid-70s. Priest at the church. Uses a wheelchair, lost his legs in the Korean War. Weary, but tough, with little patience for Rooftop’s antics. Flip: Male, African American, 37. Former student of Sister Rose, who has moved to Wisconsin, become a lawyer and come out as gay—but the people he grew up with don’t know it, and he’s desperate to keep it that way. Is infuriated by Gail and adores him. Gail: Male, Caucasian, 37. Flip’s partner who has accompanied him from Wisconsin, where he is an amateur actor. A total queen who finds Flip’s return to his hetero high school persona horrifying. Inez: Female, African American, late 30s. Former student of Sister Rose. Rooftop’s ex-wife of 15 years, harbors massive spite for him and Norca. Has since remarried and grown up, but still has the sass and bite of the neighborhood in her. Norca: Female, Latino/Hispanic, late 30s. Former student of Sister Rose. “Nasty Norca.” Fiery, foul-mouthed and volatile, with a wicked wit. Edwin: Male, Latino/Hispanic, late 30s. Former student of Sister Rose. Pinky’s brother and caretaker, bears an enormous sense of responsibility for him. Loves his brother dearly, but feels trapped and exasperated by this life. Pinky: Male, Latino/Hispanic, late 30s. Edwin’s brother. Suffered a head injury as a kid and was left somewhat simple. Like a grown child, an innocent. Needs regular hugs. Marcia: Female, Caucasian, mid 30s. Sister Rose’s niece. High-strung, and a bit unhinged, swinging wildly from kindness to ranting indignation. Sonia: Female, early 30s. Marcia’s friend, has accompanied her here from Connecticut. A bit odd and not from this world. A fish out of water.

She is charismatic and strong as she navigates this world for the first time. Diva Donna: Female, 18+, Donna Summer in her 50s at the pinnacle of her career. She is warm and wise. The piano man; older, exotic, seems in touch with the voodoo culture--could be linen suit, beads, might be barefoot, like Dr. John, or more in the Bog Joe Williams mode. He's our tour guide and must have tremendous charisma and presence; a man with character who has seen the world. Plays the piano well.
