Seeking:Mildred Miller: Female, 37-56, Southern belle through and through. She is insistent on keeping up appearances and uses perfect manners and impeccable decor to cover up her family's dark secrets. Her smile is always painted on and her voice is trained to a high, soft pitch. Mildred is a terrific flirt, a consummate hostess, and utterly feminine. Beneath all that polish is an angry, heartbroken, determined woman. Misguided as she may be, Mildred tries to protect her children the only way she knows how. She presents as a delicate flower, but when pushed, Mildred turns into a snarling junkyard dog. Doris Stevenson: Female, 37-49, African American, sharp, sensitive, and funny. She has a deep emotional well, and is an infectiously good story-teller. She has worked as a maid in the Miller household for many years, and navigates the limitations and demands of her job with integrity. Doris goes to great lengths to take care of the people she loves, including her son William, who is a leader with SNCC organizers during the tense Freedom Summer voter registration drives. Doris is acutely aware of the rules of the world and knows that people are capable of grave evil and violence. She knows the game is rigged but works hard to be pragmatic and optimistic.
