Seeking:Equity actors for roles in THE FEARS (see breakdown). All stage managerial positions have been filled. MAIA (OFFER OUT) – Character is a female in her 50s-70s, any ethnicity. The group leader at a Buddhist center in New York City – she is naturally warm with a “beneficent but somewhat hesitant and disoriented demeanor.” She helps navigate the group through their fears and traumas through a peaceful and delicate approach but is forced to confront her own past. THEA – Character is a female in her 30s, any ethnicity. Over-educated and displays her book-bright qualities regularly, but she’s also smart and attractive or she’d never get away with it. She’s the “new girl” in the group and her boyfriend is Mark, a five-year group member, who brought her there. She is skeptical at first but gradually surrenders herself to the process. MARK – Character is a Black male, age 40. He is still waiting tables and hasn’t had the break as an actor you’d need to continue the profession without misgivings. He’s a big, strong guy who turns to Buddhism to manage his rage. He is a five-year group member who brings his girlfriend Thea to her first meeting. ROSA – Character is a Latina in her 40s. Vibrant, emotionally volatile, outspoken and super smart. She lives in the Bronx with her husband and three children. Her husband built his way up from a worker to a construction manager. Her home life is quite different – indeed, at times at odds – with the culture of the Buddhist center. Role requires limited Spanish speaking. CAST: SUZANNE – Character is a white female in her late 60s. Grew up in a poor Irish Catholic family, she is blunt to a fault. As the most senior member of the group, she feels protective over the younger, more vulnerable members – unafraid to speak her mind and take action, she can overstep boundaries. KATIE – Character is a female in her early 20s, any ethnicity. She’s the youngest, sweetest, possibly most damaged person in the group – she comes from a rural upbringing and has lately cultivated a semi-goth look (which might change week to week) which might be a way of protecting herself. Her outward image belies her fragility. FIZ – Character is a queer Middle-Eastern or South Asian male in his 40s. Raised in a first-generation, strict Muslim household, his primary defense mechanism is his wicked sense of humor. He is image-conscious and defensive – he develops a strong rapport with Rosa, whom he shares a rat-tat-tat banter with.
